Interesting post and thanks to @mikedmerrill for sharing. On the technical side Posterous makes blogging as easy as email. Put in that context a blog is not much different than if an email newsletter and the responses that might be generated from that exercise. That would likely address many of the concerns and yet open the door for posting topics that are less "marketing" than their traditional emails would allow. Blogging is also a good way for smaller organizations to test new products ideas or product lines without making a heavy commitment.

Hey, if you need a testimony from a former SM cynic turned Jedi Knight Ninja of Social Media, let me know. I was not only cynical of SM but an advocate attempting to develop case studies on how SM does not work and could not do it. I can tell you straight up..No BLOG = No creditability.. no way around it.

Brilliant conversation, Rachel! A good media plan can help, but for the super busy, something as simple as co-authoring content can be great 'gateway' into the blog-o-sphere.

That would be great. My Skype ID is robertpadgett (original, I know). I've got a 10 a.m. call that should last half and hour, but I'm free to chat before 9:30 or after 10:30.

Thanks,

WRP

I don't use it on this blog, but I do on my @webinarlistings /
http://www.webinarlistings.com site I'm launching soon. It's amazing!
There ARE many themes you can use that don't need a designer though. I just
find Headway to be REALLY user friendly and visual. Let me know if you want
me to show you a quick screencast over Skype. It's WELL worth the money.

Hey Rachel,

Been awhile since we last spoke. Hope all is well. Nice blog. You presented and then countered many of the objections of blogging and social media I hear from friends and clients. I noticed you gave a plug to Headway. Do you use that program for your blog? Do you know others who do? I've been searching for an application that would afford a novice like me the flexibility to design my own site and blog without knowing code and needing to hire a designer.

Thanks,

WRP
